Australia’s First Shepard Avo Festival is Coming to Sydney’s Cuckoo Callay

The endless possibilities of an avocado.

Shepard avocado season is in full swing and to celebrate, Australian Avocados and iconic Surry Hills cafe, Cuckoo Callay are throwing Australia’s first Shepard avocado festival. Dubbed, For the Love of Shepard Avocado, the festival will boast an inventive and unexpected menu to highlight the unique flavours and textures of the star of the show.

The collaboration comes as new research reveals that Aussies are becoming more adventurous with their taste and are turning to their favourite cafes and restaurants for inspiration to experiment. In fact, for almost half of Aussies (46%), the opportunity to dine out and try the latest flavour sensation is what inspires them to try a new food or dish the most.

With 69% of Aussies admitting to being unaware of Shepard avocado’s unique qualities, each of the new menu items will hero the variety to showcase its versatility and encourage Aussies to enjoy a Shepard avocado this season.

The avo-obsessed can expect to see avo french toast on the menu, a twist on avo toast, and much more.

The festival extends beyond the cafe, with Cuckoo Callay creating a digital step-by-step recipe guide to help inspire Aussies to get creative at home. You can check out the recipes here.

Avo-loving Aussies are encouraged to share photos and videos of their favourite Shepard avocado recipes and tag @australianavocados and @cuckoocallay on Facebook or Instagram.

To try one of the limited-edition Shepard Avocado recipes, head to Cuckoo Callay in Surry Hills from Monday 14 March to Sunday 27 March.

Mad Mex’s New Menu Item Is Inspired by a Popular Mexican Street Food

mad mex chicken al pastor

Mexican restaurant chain Mad Mex has dropped a new protein, and it’s one of the most popular street foods in Mexico.

Enter, Chicken Al Pastor. It’s traditionally made with pork and grilled on a spinning rotisserie with a pineapple sitting a top, but Mad Mex has put its own spin on it, serving chicken bathed in an Al Pastor marinade with a touch of juicy pineapple.

You can order the protein-packed filling in your favourite burrito, bowl, quesadilla, nachos, or in a taco.

As always, these things are here for a good time, not a long time. Pop into your local Mad Mex restaurant, order delivery or through the Mad Mex app today.
