Historic Melbourne Beer, Richmond Lager, Has Been Revived

The beer returns after a long absence.

Giant brewer Carlton & United Breweries is in the process of reviving some classic ales from their enormous portfolio of beers. It’s just been announced that CUB will bring back iconic NSW beer Reschs Dinner Ale, as well as Cairns Draught, and now it’ll be bringing back a Melbourne suburban favourite in Richmond Lager.

“During the uncertainty of the pandemic many beer lovers have felt a strong sense of nostalgia, and that is set to continue,” said CUB marketing Manager, Marc Lord said.

“Beer lovers have long been calling for the Cairns Draught, Reschs Dinner Ale and Richmond Lager classics to be revived. The people have spoken – and we’ve listened.”

Initially brewed by Richmond Brewery on Church Street, Richmond Lager was discontinued along with Richmond Tiger Beer, and Richmond Special Export Bitter when CUB purchased the brewery in 1962. Richmond Lager was a staple on taps all around Melbourne in pubs owned by Richmond Brewery founder, and Australian beer pioneer, Peter Grant Hay.

Richmond Lager is available at Liquorland, and First Choice bottleshops in Victoria only.

Mad Mex’s New Menu Item Is Inspired by a Popular Mexican Street Food

mad mex chicken al pastor

Mexican restaurant chain Mad Mex has dropped a new protein, and it’s one of the most popular street foods in Mexico.

Enter, Chicken Al Pastor. It’s traditionally made with pork and grilled on a spinning rotisserie with a pineapple sitting a top, but Mad Mex has put its own spin on it, serving chicken bathed in an Al Pastor marinade with a touch of juicy pineapple.

You can order the protein-packed filling in your favourite burrito, bowl, quesadilla, nachos, or in a taco.

As always, these things are here for a good time, not a long time. Pop into your local Mad Mex restaurant, order delivery or through the Mad Mex app today.
