There’s a new pizza sauce in town that’ll have fans saying “aye-aye, captain!” To celebrate the partnership between Pizza Hut Australia, Nickelodeon and ViacomCBS Consumer Products, Pizza Hut will be launching a mouth-wateringly tasty SpongeBob SquarePants-inspired sauce made of pineapple (of course), jalapeno and sweet chilli.
On the 14th of July, Pizza Hut Australia, Nickelodeon and ViacomCBS Consumer Products asked Aussies to help them name the new SpongeBob inspired sauce and OH BOY did they deliver.
Over the course of 2 weeks, over 4,553 suggestions were received which gave the judging panel so much great material to work with. There were plenty of creative suggestions, tons of great show references, heaps of puns …and a couple of questionable submissions (you know who you are).
Ultimately, there could only be one winner this time around and that winner is Vincent T from Carlingford, NSW. Vincent’s suggestion of “Chillapineappleno” was chosen as it was “so fun” to try and say (a total tongue twister) and it’s absolutely something we could imagine SpongeBob telling Patrick about it. The name also covers all of the main ingredients in the sauce (chilli, jalapeno and pineapple) thus playing into the flavour cues, and we think Australia is going to love both the name & the sauce as much as we do. Well done Vincent.
Any pizzas ordered with the sauce will also be served up in a selection of re-designed SpongeBob SquarePants pizza boxes, across Large, Medium and Personal sizes, recalling different scenes from the show. The pizza boxes will have exclusive QR codes to get 50% off all download-to-own SpongeBob SquarePants episodes on YouTube, plus some extra exclusive digital content for anyone who scans. All are available from 9th August 2021.
What’s more, this strikingly vibrant sauce will be available to add on every pizza for only an additional $1 and at no extra charge to drizzle on your wings. If that wasn’t enough, anyone who orders the SpongeBob sauce online until mid-September will get the chance to enter into a competition to try and win some SpongeBob and friends related prizes, every single week.
Mexican restaurant chain Mad Mex has dropped a new protein, and it’s one of the most popular street foods in Mexico.
Enter, Chicken Al Pastor. It’s traditionally made with pork and grilled on a spinning rotisserie with a pineapple sitting a top, but Mad Mex has put its own spin on it, serving chicken bathed in an Al Pastor marinade with a touch of juicy pineapple.
You can order the protein-packed filling in your favourite burrito, bowl, quesadilla, nachos, or in a taco.
As always, these things are here for a good time, not a long time. Pop into your local Mad Mex restaurant, order delivery or through the Mad Mex app today.
