That Famous ‘Vegan McDonald’s’ Is Coming to Sydney

You can probably guess the location.

In 2022, nearly four million people watched Lizzo review Mr. Charlie’s, a vegan McDonald’s, on TikTok. It’s safe to say the golden frown went viral. The La Brea location was inundated with locals and visitors, and two years later, Mr. Charlies has spawned two more locations: two in Los Angeles and one in San Francisco.

The tongue-in-cheek restaurant is essentially a plant-based version of McDonald’s. The most popular meal is the ‘Unhappy Meal’— see what we mean by tongue-in-cheek. This boxed-up version of a Happy Meal includes a vegan burger with the option of vegan cheese, four soybean nuggets and a beverage.

Other items on the menu include ‘Not a Chicken Sandwich,’ Not Chicken Nuggets,’ and British Chips, which are just fries. You can see where they’re going with this. Though, we’re still wondering how they haven’t been sued when Kanye West ‘Ye’ can sue Melbourne burger joint College Drop Out Burgers for naming some items that reference his music.

Either way, we just got word Mr. Charlie’s iconic golden frown is coming to Aussie shores “in just a few short weeks,” according to their Instagram post.

The first Australian location will be in Redfern.

Stay tuned for more details.

Mad Mex’s New Menu Item Is Inspired by a Popular Mexican Street Food

mad mex chicken al pastor

Mexican restaurant chain Mad Mex has dropped a new protein, and it’s one of the most popular street foods in Mexico.

Enter, Chicken Al Pastor. It’s traditionally made with pork and grilled on a spinning rotisserie with a pineapple sitting a top, but Mad Mex has put its own spin on it, serving chicken bathed in an Al Pastor marinade with a touch of juicy pineapple.

You can order the protein-packed filling in your favourite burrito, bowl, quesadilla, nachos, or in a taco.

As always, these things are here for a good time, not a long time. Pop into your local Mad Mex restaurant, order delivery or through the Mad Mex app today.
