Instagram’s New Map Search Feature Is Great For Helping You Discover Local Haunts

A feature we could all use.

Instagram’s new Map Search feature couldn’t have come at a better time. We’re spending more time on home turf, and with small businesses struggling with lockdown restrictions over the past year, the new feature brings much-needed guiding light, shining on nearby bars, restaurants, cafes, shops, salons, and anything else you need.

If you’re not familiar with it yet, here’s a refresher course. The Map Search feature uses a map to highlight popular tagged locations. This can be accessed in-app via an icon in the Explore tab in the top right next to the search bar. You can filter the search according to your needs, such as a salon or bar. You will also notice the map feature pop up when you search for some hashtags, including #takeaway, which will then recommend places near your current location.

While the new feature is helpful to customers, it also supports small businesses, helping them reach potential customers in a new and interactive way. In addition, if you’re looking for something a little further afield, the map lets you search anywhere you want from Italy to Bhutan. Just pinch and drag the map to where you want to explore. Alternatively, you can click on an Instagram geotag and start searching from there.

According to Instagram, more than 200 million businesses use Instagram each month around the world, and 90% of users on Instagram use a business.

With that fact, Instagram’s Map Search is the best discovery tool yet. We can only imagine what it will do for travel, once we can start that up again.

Mad Mex’s New Menu Item Is Inspired by a Popular Mexican Street Food

mad mex chicken al pastor

Mexican restaurant chain Mad Mex has dropped a new protein, and it’s one of the most popular street foods in Mexico.

Enter, Chicken Al Pastor. It’s traditionally made with pork and grilled on a spinning rotisserie with a pineapple sitting a top, but Mad Mex has put its own spin on it, serving chicken bathed in an Al Pastor marinade with a touch of juicy pineapple.

You can order the protein-packed filling in your favourite burrito, bowl, quesadilla, nachos, or in a taco.

As always, these things are here for a good time, not a long time. Pop into your local Mad Mex restaurant, order delivery or through the Mad Mex app today.
