Lord of the Rings fans gather around; you’re not going to want to miss this announcement. For the first time ever, Russell Alexander is inviting guests to his family’s property to live like Bilbo Baggins and retreat to The Shire for an overnight stay at Hobbiton.
Burrowed in the verdant pastures of New Zealand’s Waikato region on a 2,500-acre working farm, the property bears a striking resemblance to The Shire, and it can be all yours for just $10 NZD per night.
The listing is a homage to the 10th anniversary of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.
With access to 44 Hobbit Holes, The Millhouse, The Green Dragon Inn, and other beloved locations from the work of J.R.R. Tolkien, guests will take an unexpected journey into Middle-earth for an experience unlike any other. If you’re wondering what a Middle-earth experience could look like, here’s a taste.
Guests will have private access to a personal Hobbit Hole, set up for relaxing moments of Preciousss downtime and afternoon tea. The cosy overnight experience is curated by the trilogies’ Creative Director, Brian Massey and includes a writing nook fit for Bilbo Baggins at The Millhouse. Served in The Green Dragon Inn, expect to dine like the characters with a feast of beef and ale stew, whole roast chickens, freshly baked bread, and plenty of ale. There’s also Second Breakfast and Elevenses, served daily. Guests will also be treated to a behind-the-scenes private tour of the Hobbiton movie set.
Sounds too good to be true, right? Well, it is, kind of. Airbnb has been dropping pop culture listings all year, including the beloved Mystery Machine from Scooby Doo, and even DJ Khaled opened up his sneaker closet to guests. But there’s always a catch.
Like the aforementioned Airbnb listings, Hobbiton will only be open for three individual two-night stays. You can request to book one of the three overnight stays on Wednesday, December 14, from 10 am NZDT / 8 am AEDT, here. The stays occur on March 2-4, 9-11, and 16-18, 2023.
To request to book, guests must have a verified Airbnb profile, a history of positive reviews and be aged 18+. Maximum occupancy is four persons. Two bedrooms are configured, featuring one queen bed and the other two king-singles.
You will also need to pay your own way to Auckland. Round-trip car transportation to and from the airport is provided.
Mexican restaurant chain Mad Mex has dropped a new protein, and it’s one of the most popular street foods in Mexico.
Enter, Chicken Al Pastor. It’s traditionally made with pork and grilled on a spinning rotisserie with a pineapple sitting a top, but Mad Mex has put its own spin on it, serving chicken bathed in an Al Pastor marinade with a touch of juicy pineapple.
You can order the protein-packed filling in your favourite burrito, bowl, quesadilla, nachos, or in a taco.
As always, these things are here for a good time, not a long time. Pop into your local Mad Mex restaurant, order delivery or through the Mad Mex app today.
