Grocery delivery isn’t exactly a new concept, by grocery delivery by drone is. Yes, you read that right, drone delivery is and has been a reality for quite some time now. Coles is the first to use drones to deliver directly from store to customers’ homes.
While companies and brands are taking strides in drone delivery, they’re small strides to start with. Coles’ drone delivery option is currently only operating in the Gold Coast suburbs of Ormeau, Ormeau Hills, and Yatala with drone delivery company, Wing in the pilot seat.
The service will gradually expand to include other nearby suburbs, delivering 500 of the most popular Coles grocery items, including bread, fresh produce, convenience meals, snacks, health care items, and household essentials.
How does it work? Well, Coles team members will process and pack orders, and WIng staff will load the drones and oversee the operation of the delivery service.
The Coles drone delivery expansion into Queensland follows a successful pilot program launched in Canberra earlier this year, where Coles co-located its products at Wing’s drone delivery facility. Since the Canberra pilot program began in March 2022, more than 5,000 Coles deliveries have been made through Wing, with some of the most popular items including fresh fruit, milk, bread, and eggs, along with confectionery, snacks, and cold drinks.
As part of the expansion into South East Queensland, Wing will also soon be offering Coles items for delivery from the rooftop of Grand Plaza in Logan, Queensland, where it has been operating a drone delivery service for selected on-site businesses for just over a year.
Want to try it? Simply download the Wing app, enter your address, and add items to your cart. Upon arrival, the drone hovers in the air and slowly lowers the package to the ground at your location for a contactless delivery. Wing drone delivery from Coles in Ormeau will be available from 9 am to 4:30 pm, Tuesday to Sunday.
Here’s hoping more of Australia will soon be able to get their groceries delivered by drone.
Mexican restaurant chain Mad Mex has dropped a new protein, and it’s one of the most popular street foods in Mexico.
Enter, Chicken Al Pastor. It’s traditionally made with pork and grilled on a spinning rotisserie with a pineapple sitting a top, but Mad Mex has put its own spin on it, serving chicken bathed in an Al Pastor marinade with a touch of juicy pineapple.
You can order the protein-packed filling in your favourite burrito, bowl, quesadilla, nachos, or in a taco.
As always, these things are here for a good time, not a long time. Pop into your local Mad Mex restaurant, order delivery or through the Mad Mex app today.
