We Asked a Professional Burger-Builder How to Stack the Ultimate Burger

The ultimate stack.

@royalstacksau

Ever wondered how to stack the perfect burger? We have.

Do you put the cheese on either side of the patty so it melts better? Where does the sauce go? How much tomato is too much tomato?

The variations are endless, but what’s the secret to stacking the ultimate burger?

We looked to Royal Stacks restaurateur, Dani Zeini, for advice.

Dani’s go-to burger at Royal Stacks is their classic Double Stack, with raw onion and the perfect combination of beef, cheese and buns.

Everyone’s preference is different, but he personally the classic style of burger, with the sweet-savoury flavour of a good hot sauce, the freshness of tomato and lettuce giving it some crunch, and cheese binding it all together.

How to stack the ultimate burger step-by-step

Here’s the step-by-step process of how to stack the perfect burger courtesy of Royal Stacks “restaurateur, Dani Zeini:

Firstly, before you stack the bun, put a generous teaspoon of sauce (any sauce of your choice such as hot sauce, aioli, BBQ) onto the golden side of your top bun and use the back of the spoon to spread it right to the edges. You want every bite to have sauce!

Then, in the following order, stack the bottom bun:

  1. Place three pickles first
  2. Then, two patties of your choice (our favourite is beef), topped with melted cheese. Tip: when you’re grilling the patties, pop your cheese on top at the very end, so that it melts on the patty before you pop it in the bun.
  3. Next, put two tomato slices and two red-onion slices. Red onion can be raw, cook or pickled, depending on what flavour you’re going for.
  4. Finish assembling the fresh ingredients with lettuce on top. Lettuce is always the final part of the stack. Tip: Dani enjoys putting the fresh ingredients on top so that they aren’t steamed by the heat of the patty, and you taste the beef and cheese first!
  5. Pop the top bun (with your healthy spread of sauce) on top, and you’re ready to dig in.
