Why Honey Tequila Should Be in Your Bar Cart

A game-changer.

Tequila has a bad rep for being the drink everyone regrets. Whether you have bad memories of University parties or wild nights at the club, everyone blames tequila. Although, it’s not tequila’s fault. Most buy cheap tequila which is truly awful and leaves you with tequila headaches the next day. If that’s you, you should look at buying better tequila. The trick is to look for the “100% agave” on the label, that’s when you know it’s good. In fact, tequila is one of the healthiest spirits on the market. It’s great for diabetics due to its low sugar content, which is made up of simple sugars, making it easier for the body to break down. It also has fewer carbs than most spirits.

Now, if I’ve convinced you to give tequila a second chance, why not start with honey tequila. As someone who enjoys tequila, and has tried several different kinds of tequila, including travelling just to try a specific type of tequila, never have I come across honey tequila.

Cazcabel, is a premium tequila brand, which just launched in Australia. They offer the usual suspects including Blanco and Reposado, but also a coffee tequila and the piece de resistance, honey tequila.

The Blanco is fresh and crisp, great for a classic Paloma, and the Reposado is the perfect blend of toasted oak and earthy flavours, as a Reposado should be. The coffee tequila is on another level, with its balance of sweet and bitter, ideal for an espresso martini. Although, it’s the honey tequila that’s a standout. The honey adds a generous dose of sweet nectar to the spirit which coats the mouth with rich caramel flavours and a dry finish. If you’re new to tequila, this is a great way to introduce the spirit to your palate, but also, if you’re a tequila connoisseur like me, this is sure to make your tastebuds dance. It’s a great sipper or works well in cocktails, bringing the earthy flavours of agave in harmony with sweet sweet liquid gold.

The Cazcabel range is now available in Dan Murphy’s and BWS and you can pick up a bottle between $60 to $70, depending on the type. The honey tequila and coffee tequila are $60.
