We Need to Talk About Chatime’s Bizarre Goblin Mascots

Chatime has certainly gone their own way with this one.

Generally, when you’re looking for an icon to represent your brand, you play it safe. You go with something cute and cuddly, but definitely something recognisable. Well, Chatime has done it all a little bit different. The bubble tea chain’s new mascots sure are recognisable, but cute and cuddly they are not.

It’s all part of Chatime’s new ‘Satisfy Your Strange’ campaign. The strange new characters include a half horse/half baby sort of thing, a green half-baked dog creature, a yellow chilled out character that reminds of That Yellow Bastard from Sin City, among others.

Head to Chatime’s TikTok and you’ll find these characters not just looking bizarre, but doing bizarre things. One video shows the blue grub/cow thing filling up a Chatime cup directly from its udder. And this is what you get if you scan the QR codes on Chatime bus stop ads around the cities.

@chatimeau UDDERLY TEA-LICIOUS! 🧋Have you seen a Strange on a street near you?! Scan the QR code and you’ll be in for a teat… we meant treat. #satisfyyourstrange #chatimeau #fyp ♬ original sound – Chatime Australia

The troubling visuals don’t stop there, another shows the yellow character drink a whole bubble tea and shoot tapioca balls out of his ears. I’m not even going to try to decipher the biology of these things.

See for yourself.

@chatimeau Have you ever had so much boba it’s started coming out of your ears? This Strange has, go and find it on a street near you! #satisfyyourstrange #chatimeau ♬ original sound – Chatime Australia

Chatime, is everything ok?
