You’re probably sick of logging onto social media every day and finding out a new ‘national [INSERT RANDOM NOUN HERE] day’ exists. We get it. National Walk Around Things Day. National Two Different Coloured Shoes Day. International Nose Pickers Day. You might think these are all fake, but according to the annals of the internet, they’re all real — and who are we not to trust the internet? But none of these inconsequential celebrations holds a candle to National Pizza Party Day, which is not only real but a cause I can get behind.

Yes, the third Friday of every May marks National Pizza Party Day. The perfect excuse to just relax, have fun and stuff your face full of cheesy goodness. I’m working on a petition to make this a weekly celebration, please stay tuned for more updates.

The celebrations are already happening across the country, too. Pizza Hut has even set up a competition where a simple pizza purchase gives you the chance to spin a prize wheel, with the biggest prize being a huge $20,000. Pizza can’t really be improved, but a spin to win yourself a small fortune sure does help.

Now, you might already know this information or it might be completely new. In any case, why not make 2023 the year you actually celebrate the way this hallowed day deserves? We’ve put together some easy tips to make the third Friday of May the best day of the year.

Pair Your Pizza with Cocktails

Maybe pizza parties aren’t the first thing you think of when it comes to elevated, high-brow events of the bourgeoisie. But they can be once you use your pizza connoisseur skills to pair your cheesy delights with a cocktail. It’s the ultimate Amalfi experience.

Mix the simplicity of a cheese pizza with the bold richness of a Manhattan. Match the three ingredients that make up a Margherita pizza with the three ingredients that make up a Negroni (don’t pair a Margherita pizza with a Margarita cocktail, please have some decorum about yourself). Maybe just throw caution completely to the wind and pair a Meatlovers with a Long Island Iced Tea. TGIF, baby!

Food-themed movies are the best movies, it’s time we face the facts. “The Menu”, “Ratatouille”, “Julie & Julia” — the list goes on. Why not turn your pizza party into the ultimate Friday night celebration of a movie night? Grab your mates, order as much pizza as you want and throw on some of the best pizza-related films to ever grace the cinema.

And Cinéma de Pizzas is a far bigger universe than you might think. You’ve got “Mystic Pizza”, “Do The Right Thing”, “Eat Pray Love” etc. Stretch the imagination a little bit and you can throw in “Licorice Pizza”, “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” and “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs”. You can even make it a little bit festive — why not throw on “Home Alone”?

Just don’t tell the delivery person to get their ugly, yella, no-good keister off your property. They’re just doing a job. Be nice to service people.

Top National Pizza Party Day Off with Pizza-Themed Desserts

This doesn’t mean we want you to ice a cake with pizza sauce (although if you do please let me know how that goes). Use the essence of pizza to inspire your confectionery choices. If you substitute a pizza-themed dessert with a boring, non-pizza-themed dessert, you may as well just pack up the whole shebang. Do a pizza party hard, and do it right, folks!

Smear that Nutella or chocolate sauce on a pizza base for an easy — and delicious — way to cap off National Pizza Party Day. Even chuck some fruit on some flatbread for a lighter and refreshing alternative. Pizza Hut can even deliver gigantic Hershey’s chocolate chip cookies that you can slice just like a pizza.
