These Non-Alcoholic Beers Are So Good, You Won’t Even Miss The Buzz

These days it's hard to tell the difference.

Whether you’re going totally sober or looking to lessen your alcohol intake, the non-alcoholic market has improved in leaps and bounds over the last few years. Instead of struggling your way through a strange-tasting beverage, you’ll be treated with complex flavours and body with many non-alcoholic beer brands, so much so that if you blindfolded yourself, you’d be hard-pressed to differentiate between the zero alcohol beer and its alcoholic cousin.

Another great benefit of all these new non-alcoholic beers hitting the market is that you can now choose a beer that aligns with your taste preferences. Favour pale ales? There’s a non-alcoholic beer for that. Love a double IPA? You’ll find an alcohol-free version, easily. This is great news for beer fans who love the complexities of craft beer but don’t want the alcohol that comes with them.

Below, find our favourite non-alcoholic beers at the moment.

Alcohol-Free Mixed 12 Pack

We’re starting off big but trust us when we say that picking up this mixed bag twelve-pack from Beer Cartel ($49.99) is very much worth the money if you’re still figuring out which non alcoholic beer you’re a fan of. Filled with a mix of beverages from brands like Heaps Normal, Big Drop and Sobah, this pack also makes a great gift for the non-drinkers in your life.

Nort Non-Alcoholic Refreshing Ale

Nort brews its beer like you would an alcoholic beer, but uses a different fermentation process that removes the alcohol. In this way, you get the feel and taste of beer without the buzz. The brand has four beer types – including a Pacific Ale, Tropical XPA and All Day IPA, but it’s the Refreshing Ale ($13.49 for six) that’s gained a lot of fans thanks to its fruity aroma and a refreshing finish.

Heaps Normal Quiet XPA

One of the most popular non-alcoholic beers in the market, Heaps Normal’s Quiet XPA ($12.99 for four) features a balanced bitterness and malt sweetness reminiscent of regular beers. Tropical and fruity, this is a great weekend beverage on a sunny day – full-flavoured but fresh and crisp.

Peroni Libera 0.0%

Love Peroni’s Nastro Azzurro? You’ll enjoy the zero alcohol Libera ($11.99 for six), which features the same golden, crisp finish with citrus-hoppy, fruity notes. Reviewers rave about the beer on Dan Murphy’s site, with one saying “I’m taking 4 weeks off alcohol and this beer tastes as good as full-strength beer.”

Carlton Zero Non-Alcoholic Beer

Love a full-flavoured beer? Carlton Zero ($10.99 for six) has been brewed to taste just like Carlton’s classic full-strength Draught. Reviews are favourable on Dan Murphy’s website, with one fan writing “I’ve tried a lot of 0% beers and this is a favourite. Great if you’re wanting a refreshing drink but have to drive or you’re done with hangovers. Just love the taste. Highly recommend trying.”

Hop Nation Mind Your Head Alcohol-Free XPA

Melbourne brewery Hop Nation have made a delicious, dry XPA ($14.99 for four) that’s under 0.5% ABV, without losing the hoppiness we love from these beers. Citrusy and fruity, we think this is the perfect after-work beer for when you want the refreshing taste without the alcohol.
