Throw a few of these in your esky this summer.

best new hard seltzers

Not long ago, we delved into the world of hard seltzers, asking important questions, such as why we’re obsessed with the bubbly, alcoholic refreshments. Now that our fascination with seltzers has solidified, we’re on the lookout for newcomers, especially with summer coming up.

Unsurprisingly, a few new brands and releases are hitting the shelves this summer. So, try these latest releases if you’re ready to go above and beyond White Claw Summer.

Part Time Rangers

Part Time Rangers is not your ordinary seltzer brand. Yes, their cans are low in sugar and you’ll find flavours such as gin and raspberry, and tropical vodka with passionfruit, but unlike other seltzer brands, this beverage protects our environment. A portion of the proceeds is donated towards animal conservation initiatives across the globe. They are determined to create a community of ‘part time rangers’, who act as a force for change while living their everyday lives. Since launching three years ago, the brand has donated over $160,000 to wildlife conservation and continues to lead the conversation on conservation. You can find Part Time Rangers in BWS, Dan Murphy’s, and other major bottle shops in Australia.

Frenchies Brewery, Aperitivo Seltzer

Roseberry-based, Frenchies Brewery has launched a seltzer and we have a feeling it’s going to be a summer hit. Inspired by the Italian coastline, yet brewed for an iconic Australian summer, this aperitivo seltzer combines the best of the orange-hued cocktail, with the ease of a canned seltzer. Offering flavours of bitter-sweet citrus, it features 25 all-natural, locally sourced spices, fruits and botanicals, and has undergone a refined brewing process and triple filtration. The result is a light, bright and refreshing 4% ABV sparkling beverage. You can find Aperitivo Seltzer on tap or buy four packs and cases online here.

They’re made in Australia and contain only 82 calories, each, with zero sugar and no additives. They’re also gluten-free, so everyone can participate in seltzer summer. Find them in three flavours, including passionfruit, strawberry and lemon-lime. Find Skyline at the Deeds Taproom in Glen Iris, as well as independent bottle shops and selected Coles Liquorland.

White Claw Surge

Australia is the first country outside North America to launch White Claw Surge, the amped-up version of a White Claw. So what’s the difference? Surge has an ABV of 6.5%. In comparison to White Claw’s 4.5% ABV, you can taste the difference. It has the same great, refreshing taste with a hint of natural fruit flavour, so it’s perfect for throwing in the esky this summer for beach days and picnics. You can get Surge in a blood orange or blackberry flavour. Although, here’s to hoping they will come out with more flavours soon. White Claw Surge will be available nationwide from November 14 at bottle stores and bars. A 4-pack will cost $30.

MODE

This 100% Aussie-owned seltzer brand is new to the market and already turning heads. Unlike other seltzers, MODE clocks in at 5% ABV, making it 1.3 standard drinks. Sign us up! It’s a low-calorie, low-sugar, vegan, and gluten-free seltzer that everyone can enjoy. You can get four flavours: mango and pomegranate, Tasmanian pepper berry, ginger and lime, Davidson plum and forest berry, and a refreshing yuzu, cucumber, and basil seltzer. Although, the names are much more fun. Think Frankie’s Sunset Dress, Salt Brushed Skin, and No More Elevator Music. The can designs are innovative and on-trend. You won’t want to hide these cans in the esky. Display them on the table. In terms of price, it’s reasonable at $75 for a case of 12. It’s actually one of the more affordable options on the market. Sunny Eddy Gin Seltzer

Hailing from Sydney’s northern beaches, Sunny Eddy Gin Seltzer is about as close to summer in a can as you’re going to get. Unlike other seltzers on the market, mostly vodka or brewed like a beer, Sunny Eddy is Australia’s first gin-based hard seltzer. It uses triple-distilled Australian gin made with juniper and native lemon myrtle. It pairs perfectly with three approachable, crisp, natural flavours, including lime and cucumber, crisp pink apple, and blood orange and grapefruit. Pick a can up from Dan Murphy’s.
