Let’s face it, tequila is not the most popular spirit choice in Australia. Either it reminds you of a time you did something you weren’t supposed to when you were young or you’ve heard it makes your clothes fall off. Whatever reason it might be, don’t give in. Tequila is a spirit that is easy drinking, and pairs well in cocktails. Its sugar content also makes it a top choice for diabetics, just ask Nick Jonas.

So, if you’re ready to give tequila another chance, or if you just want to know which tequila to get for a reasonable price, here is our guide to tequilas you can get for under $50.

Jose Cuervo

Jose Cuervo is one of the best selling-tequila brands on the market, worldwide. Although, it’s not 100% agave, its general smoothness makes it a great choice for cocktails, or anything where you don’t have to sip or shot it. Use it in cooking or punchbowls. For $45 for reposado, and $49.95 for blanco, it’s an affordable, versatile option.

Tequila125

This clean and clear tequila, sports a funky label and fits perfectly into your favourite cocktail. Expect a warm, robust palate, that is further enhanced with a lick of salt, and squeeze of lime. For $42, Tequila125 is a crowd-pleaser, keeping margarita lovers at bay.
Buy from BWS.

Sierra

Sierra, also known as Australians first introduction to tequila, is best recognised by its red sombrero. It’s the most popular silver tequila on the market, for its sweet and fruity flavour profile, and smooth finish. Not to mention, it’s $45 a bottle. That’s good value.
